Read our general notes on Risk Assessment

I'm currently writing up my A2 Investigation, and I've done a titration using paracetamol and ammonium cerium(IV) nitrate solution, but I don't know the equation for the reaction: the paracetamol was refluxed with sulphuric acid, made to a standard solution, and then had 0.1 molar ammonium cerium(IV) nitrate added. I was wondering if you could help figure out the formula so I can work out the paracetamol content of the samples tested. Thank you

The analytical technique involves a fairly complicated set of reactions, and there isn’t the space here to give you all the detail you need. However, Royal Society of Chemistry has produced a very helpful document. This will provide you with all the information you need – and more!

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website. For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
