Beat the examiners
Read our general notes on Risk Assessment
Must we learn about all the GM Government checks etc at the end of the Biochemistry booklet? Do we also need to know the experiments in the booklet for the exam?

I don’t quite understand what the first question refers to. Look at the Edexcel Chemistry (Nuffield) specification. The specification sets out what the scope of the exam will be and examiners have to work within the specification. The experiments form an integral part of the course. Reference to recent papers should make it clear that questions based on experiments are asked, but candidates are not expected to memorise details of volumes, concentrations etc as was expected in papers dating from before the present specification came in in 2000. Questions on the reasons behind procedures and the interpretation of results are asked. The question in the June 2005 paper provides a reasonable model.

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
