Benzene and phenol
Read our general notes on Risk Assessment
Benzene and related compounds have played an important part in organic chemistry ever since Kekule had his famous dream.
The stability of the benzene ring is unexpected but important. Benzene and related compounds are essential ingredients for the manufacture of drugs (including aspirin and paracetamol), dyes, antiseptics and important polymers (including polystyrene, nylon and polyester).
