How and why you should plan

There are so many different kinds of laboratory experiment that it is almost impossible to give a helpful account of how to plan all of them. Instead of attempting this I’m going to get you to look closely at one particular set of practical instructions for an experiment to prepare a double salt.
 
If possible get a Nuffield Chemistry Students’ Book for this, open at page 14 since the tutorial refers to this. You may also find it useful to have a Nuffield Chemistry Book of Data to hand.

The Planning tutorial helped me to understand how to plan an investigation effectively and what type of apparatus are suitable for a particular experiment. I find that planning experiments for titration practicals are quite hard to do as there are several calculations in the proceedure that need to be added. This is one area that I think practical tutorials would help a majority of A level students on.
