Rates of reaction - kinetics (A2)
Read our general notes on Risk Assessment
I'm currently writing the evaluation for my course work on the iodine clock reaction based on the reaction between potassium iodide and potassium peroxodisulphate(VI). As part of my investigation I had to try and find the activation enthalpy. I've looked every where for a data value for this so I can compare my answer to it but can't find one!
The ILPAC Resource Pack for Advanced Practical Chemistry (published by Hodder/Murray) has sample results which lead to the value of the activation energy, in the absence of a catalyst, of 52.9 kJ mol-1.
Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
