What is the pH of 2 molar nitric acid? I have this solution but I want to make it at least 16-18 molar. How do I do this?

Concentrated nitric acid is 16 Molar (if it is 70% acid which is typical). So what you asking seems impossible and unnecessary.

(Bear in mind that concentrated nitric acid is highly corrosive and needs to be handled with extreme care.)

Assuming that nitric acid is a strong acid and fully ionised, then the pH = 1 for a 0.1 M solution. The pH of 2 molar acid will be slightly negative.

The definition of pH really only applies to pH values for fairly dilute solutions with pH values in the range 1 - 14. Applying the concept of pH to 2 Molar nitric acid is not particularly useful.

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website. For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
