Read our general notes on Risk Assessment

Hi, I am researching the iodine clock reaction between hydrogen peroxide and potassium iodide in acid solution. I cannot find any data on the activation enthalpy of this reaction anywhere. What is the activation enthalpy? and are there any reliable sources of this which I can find in the UK? thank you so much for your time, you're lifesavers!!

We hope you have access to the Nuffield Book of Data. Page 119 gives a few activation energies and, as luck would have it, the one you want is there! The value given is 56.1 kJ mol-1 or 43.5 kJ mol-1 depending on which rate equation you choose – the rate equations are given, which might come in handy.

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website. For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
