Read our general notes on Risk Assessment

Regarding my previous question, the past paper question "Suggest two steps you would use to obtain pure dry liquid bromine" - I think that the question is asking on how to purify the sample and not how to obtain the bromine from a bromide.

Freshly prepared bromine condensed to a liquid can be purified by drying with concentrated sulphuric acid, and then re-distilling the dry bromine over potassium bromide to remove any chlorine present.

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website. For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
