Could you tell me the bond angle of N-C-C in 1,2-diaminoethane?

I do not have access to data sources which give this specific information but I can give what I believe to be a reasonable estimate.
The carbon atoms in 1,2-diaminoethane are each forming four bonds, one to nitrogen, one to carbon and two to hydrogen atoms. Because the carbon and nitrogen atoms are larger than the hydrogen atoms, I would expect the NCC bond angle to ‘open out’ from the basic tetrahedral angle of 109.5°. I would think 112° +/- 2° a reasonable estimate.
It is possible that the amino group and the -CH2 – NH2 group might have a steric interaction (ie repulsion and resulting twisting of the molecule) which would bring the bond angle back to a value closer to the tetrahedral angle.
Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
