How do I link the properties of (LDPE) low-density polyethene to its chemical structure?
The account given in the Nuffield Chemistry Students’ Book under ‘Background Reading’ – p444 - gives quite a good start . If you can get hold of a copy of Nuffield Students’ Book II (2nd edition 1984) you will find a slightly longer account with some simple experiments and their explanations. Page 267 is where the account starts.
Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
