Spectroscopy

Read our general notes on Risk Assessment

The developments in spectroscopy have transformed the subject by allowing chemists to study the behaviour of particular atoms, molecules or chemical bonds.

In an advanced chemistry course you are expected to be familiar with:

  • mass spectrometry

  • visible of ultra-violet spectroscopy

  • infra-red spectroscopy

  • nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (nmr).

  •
In most AS courses you really only have to know about mass spectrometry. The other instrumental methods are part of the for A2 programme.
