Rates of reaction - kinetics (A2)
Read our general notes on Risk Assessment
Hi, I am doing my investigation between peroxodisulphate and iodide ions and I have already varied the concentration of the reactants. I now intend to vary the temperature. I understand the need to lower the concentration of reactants but what would be an ideal concentration for the reactants?
Ulex says
This is just the sort of thing you really must sort out for yourself - by trial and error if necessary. There are two things to bear in mind:
1. When you were investigating concentration change, what were the lowest concentrations you used? These might well give you a clue about where to begin.
2. As a rough guide, rate doubles with every 10 degrees rise in temperature, so you might have to start with what seems an impossibly low rate at room temperature.
Hope it goes well!
Always carry out a risk assessment and check with your teacher before starting any practical work.
Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
