I am investigating vinegars, and was wondering is it possible to measure the ethanoic acid content/acidity in white wine vinegar compared with the distillate from distillation of white wine vinegar? Also is this distillate the same to distilled vinegar available in supermarkets?

Yes, it’s perfectly possible. Simply carry out titrations on the original white wine vinegar and on a sample which you have distilled. Carry out the appropriate calculations and compare results.
Commercially available distilled vinegar is certainly obtained by a similar sort of distillation process, and the product is going to be essentially the same, whether it is distilled from cider, malt or wine vinegars. However, it is likely that the original distillate is diluted somewhat before it is sold for use as a preservative or food flavouring.
Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website.
