Please could you help - I need to find out the equation when iron(III) chloride solution is added to potassium hexacyanoferrate (II)solution.

Corrie writes....

Fe3+ ions, hexacyanoferrate ions ([Fe(CN)6]4 -) ions and K+ ions form a dark blue precipitate of 'Prussian Blue', KFe[Fe(CN)6]. The ionic equation would be:

Fe3+(aq) + K+(aq) + [Fe(CN)6]4 -(aq) -> KFe[Fe(CN)6](s)

You can add in chloride ions, as spectator ions, on both sides if you want a full equation.

Risk assessment
Before attempting any practical work based on the advice and suggestions on this website, you must do the following. Identify any hazards, assess the risks from these hazards, and then decide appropriate control measures to reduce the risks. You must have these approved by those in authority in your school or college laboratory. Do not rely on what is said on this website. For further guidance see our tutorial on Risk Assessment.
