What is the chemical formula for hydrated iron ammonium sulphate?
Ulex replies ...
There are actually two different compounds depending on which oxidation state the iron is in. One of them belongs to the ‘alum’ family of compounds and has the formula
(NH4)2SO4.Fe2(SO4)3.24H2O
The other is the one which you probably made in Topic 1 of the Nuffield Chemistry course and has the formula
(NH4)2SO4.FeSO4.6H2O
